Today, I’ll share 5 such objects and tips from my humble abode.
5 of My Favorite Household Things:
1.) The bottom-of-the-stairs basket. A catch-all for stuff that’s going upstairs/downstairs. Totally saves the counters from being a dumping ground for things that are out of place. I’ll toss items in it throughout the day; if it’s full and I’m on my way up, I’ll take it with.
2.) My return address stamp. For someone who moved 11 times in 7 years, there was something nice and settling about purchasing this little guy. I’ve since seen fancier ones I like even more, but this one (from here) has served me well so far.
3.) Marking the laundry detergent cap with a sharpie. Because really, who can see those lines that tell you what’s enough? Perhaps that’s the point–they want you to over-pour. Hmm.
And, if you have a high-efficiency washer, may I submit that you truly don’t need much detergent to get things clean? See how low you can go–I only buy detergent about twice a year. I suppose I’m now subjecting myself to judgement, but you are welcome to come smell our clothes and see for yourself.
4.) Upholstery tacks. Like thumbtacks or nails, but pretty. Useful for hanging banners, Christmas stockings, curtains (yes, I said curtains–or, more appropriately, window mistreatments a la The Nester), frames, etc.
5.) The fireplace. Though a loyal WBFP fan, I have grown fond of just flipping the switch on my gas one whenever the temperature dips below 60 (Hubs, are you reading this? I mean 30) or I’ve a longing to feel cozy.
